Making Every Moment Count

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits. Today, I would like to address an important aspect of our lives that can greatly influence our success and well-being: time management. As we navigate our daily routines and responsibilities, it is crucial to understand the value of time and how to make the most of it.

To illustrate the significance of time management, allow me to share a short story:
Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a wise old man named Mr. Thompson. He was highly respected for his wisdom and ability to solve complex problems. People from all walks of life would seek his advice.

One day, a young villager named James approached Mr. Thompson with a question that had been bothering him for a while. "Sir," James asked, "how can I achieve success and accomplish all my goals?" Mr. Thompson smiled and motioned for James to follow him. They walked together towards a nearby river. As they reached the riverbank, Mr. Thompson handed James a handful of pebbles and said, "James, I want you to throw these pebbles into the river as quickly as possible." James eagerly started throwing the pebbles one by one into the flowing river. He aimed to throw them as fast as he could, but soon realized that he was dropping some pebbles and struggling to keep up with the pace. Mr. Thompson interrupted him and said, "James, let me show you a different approach." He took out a small bag filled with sand and poured it into James' hand. "Now, I want you to throw this sand into the river." This time, James hesitated. He realized that throwing the sand would be much more challenging. He tried to throw it quickly, but the sand slipped through his fingers, and he couldn't keep up with the task. Mr. Thompson smiled once again and said, "James, the pebbles represent the important tasks and goals in your life, while the sand represents the smaller, less significant things that can easily consume your time. If you focus too much on the sand, you won't have enough time and energy for the pebbles that truly matter."

The story of James and the pebbles reminds us of the importance of prioritizing our time and energy wisely. Often, we get caught up in the busyness of our lives, spending precious moments on trivial matters that do not contribute to our long-term goals. By identifying our "pebbles" - the tasks and goals that truly matter to us-and allocating our time and attention accordingly, we can achieve a greater sense of fulfilment and success.

At NLLIS, we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also understand the importance of time management. By instilling effective time management skills in our students, we prepare them for the challenges they will face in their academic pursuits and future endeavours. I encourage both students and parents to engage in open discussions about time management and explore strategies to make the most of our time. Together, we can support one another in creating a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle that allows us to pursue our passions while managing our responsibilities effectively. Thank you for your attention, and remember, time is a precious resource that waits for no one. Let us make the most of it and strive for excellence in all that we do.

Warm regards,

Mrs Ratula Saha Principal, NLLIS.
